Jannik Splidsboel with the film DREAM OF MAREMMA was awarded the Mantaray Film Award 2013, for Film om the year. The price was received, on Janniks Splidsboels behalf, by Karin Ekberg, who worked on the launch of the film in the spring.

Mantaray Film Award was instituted by Mantaray Film, and awards a director who, despite difficult circumstances manage to complete a documentary film during the year.

Mantaray Films Honorable Mention in 2013 was awarded to Lars Gillegård and Våra Gårdar: "Våra Gårdar, represented by Lars Gillegård, hereby recieves Mantaray Films honorable mention 2013 for his great contribution to the spread of Swedish documentary that enables valuable meetings between the films' directors and audiences around Sweden."

Producer Stina Gardell is invited to Verdensteatret in Tromsø, Norway, to talk about film. The event is part of the theaters "Movie Talk Series," where the audience can meet various filmmakers and their work up close.

During the visit, Stina will talk about her films I'm my own Dolly Parton and He thinks he's the best, and give the audience an insight into her career, both past and present.

The event is organized by the North Norwegian Film Center. It is free and open to all!

Stina will also host a masterclass with Margreth Ohlin, also in Tromsø. This event will take place on 6-7 June. More info here. 

About 10 percent of the Swedish population has visual impairment or dyslexia. With this in mind, we are pleased to see that Tuesday, May 28, the Swedish Film Institute and the National Post and Telecom Agency handed over a report on Available cinema to Mnister of Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth.

The project has three technical solutions developed, operated in test operation, tested by the target groups and evaluated and accepted by the filmmakers, producers, distributors and cinemas. The digital display technology can simplify access to assimilate Swedish and foreign films at the cinema. The aim is to develop at least one technical complete solution for audio tracks with audio description and read subtitles. Cinema should simply be available to everyone.

At a seminar on May 28, the new technology was demonstrated in Movie House Cinema Victor and the report was submitted to the Minister of Culture.

Hopefully the first cinema ticket to shows with audio description and read subtitles can be bought in the summer of 2014.

Mantaray Film wants to help create available cinema for everyone. One step in the process is to address and discuss difficult topics, such as vision loss, which could hinder or prevent people from experiencing film. Therefore, we are waiting with bated breath for the film I See You by Sylvelin Måkestad. The film is about rebellious Rena who want to be seen for who she is, not as a blind person. The film will premiere in January 2014.

The promise is a film about the 25 year old filmmaker Irene Lopez and her struggle to understand her background and history. It is a story about absent fathers. About the choices her three parents had to make and how the logic of the war affects generations after generations. The story als portray an immigrant family's life in Sweden and the history of El Salvador since the revolution. A film filled with real heroes, promises, reconciliation and an answer to what it really means to be a family.

The Promise is chosen for pitch in Barcelona in may 29-30.

The film Days in Maremma are now spread worldwide, and is currently showing in cinemas across Italy. Next up are two showings in Tuscany, on saturday may 11'th at 18:00.

The film had a very successful premiere in the village Tanquina, where over 120 people showed up!

About the film

On Saturday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. begins Stockholm Culture Night. The film Days in Maremma is shown during the evening at Unga Klara, with free admission.

The film is about when the Danish film director Jannik Splidsboel travels to Maremma in Italy to make a film about the area and the people living there.
During his stay he discovers that the local farmers are facing severe economic problems. Some have tried to avoid bankruptcy by selling their homes to city slickers, while keeping the land for themselves. But those same farmers have secretly agreed to rent out their fields to one of the world's largest solar panel companies and by doing so are ruining the local area for those who bought the old farmhouses. Suddenly Jannik finds himself in the middle of a local war.
But who's actually to blame?

The film I'm my own Dolly Parton appears on the Norwegian Film Institute, on the International Women's Day.

March 8 is International Women's Day, which the Norwegian Film Institute celebrates with a tribute to Dolly Parton. At 19:00, everyone is invited to watch the Mantaray-produced feelgood documentary I'm my own Dolly Parton.

I'm my own Dolly Parton is a deeply personal documentary directed by Jessica Nettelbladt. The film introduces us to music producer Gudrun Hauksdottir and singers Nina Persson, Cecilia Nordlund, Lotta Wenglén and Helena Josefsson – five colourful women ready to take on whatever challenges life throws at them, inspired by Dolly Parton’s strength to go her own way and defy the pressure to conform. The film takes us on a thought-provoking and inspirational journey about taking yourself seriously, listening to your heart and having the courage to make your dreams come true.

The Gothenburg-premiere takes place in the presence of the film's producer Stina Gardell, and are followed by panel discussions on the theme "Wind turbines". The event is held at the Bio Roy, 4 March at 18:00.
