In 2009, the famous Latvian photographer Inta Ruka was portrayed in Maud Nycanders documentary film The photographer from Riga. The film received great attention and became very renowned for its recognition and personal approach in the portrayal of Inta Ruka's life. The film is about how Inta Ruka herself, as one of Latvia's top photographers, attests to the artist life in the Soviet era and the current financial crisis hit Latvia. Read more about the film here.
Inta Rukas portraits will now be displayed in a beautiful exhibition at the Photographic Museum in Stockholm. The exhibition is called You and Me, and is between October 5 to December 8. Buy tickets and read more about the exhibition at the Photographic Museum website.

On September 20 to 25, the 24th round of the annual film festival NordiskPanorama will be held. During the festival, the much-loved documentary film Days in Maremma will be shown, which gives the film its festival premiere.
Nordisk Panorama is a center for nordic short films and documentary films, and is an attractive venue for filmmakers, producers, film enthusiasts and interested audience. This year the festival will be held in Malmö, and over 700 professional visitors from more than 20 countries are expected.
The film Days in Maremma is shown in the festival's film series "Eco Matters," which highlights films that in different ways mirrors man in the ecosystem - and the existential questions of today.

The film is about the Danish film director Jannik Splidsboel, who travels to Maremma in Italy to make a film about the area and the people living there.
During his stay he discovers that the local farmers are facing severe economic problems. Some have tried to avoid bankruptcy by selling their homes to city slickers, while keeping the land for themselves.
But those same farmers have secretly agreed to rent out their fields to one of the world's largest solar panel companies and by doing so are ruining the local area for those who bought the old farmhouses.
Suddenly Jannik finds himself in the middle of a local war.
But who's actually to blame?
The film Days in Maremma will start running on Bio Haga in Gothenburg, on septenber 6. After the first showing on Friday, the producer Stina Gardell will participate in an open discussion about the film and the topics presented in the film.

The OP-Festival features extraordinary films like The Portraitist by Irek Dobrowolski, Chasing Ice by Jeff Orlowski and Worldstar by Natasa von Kropp. For the closing day guest curator Erica McDonald has selected a combination of shorter multi-media pieces by contemporary photographers that showcase the still photograph alongside films about some of the greatest photographers through time.
The films are free available to watch on your laptop/computer/tablet. The festival encourages viewers to organize pop-up events and to view and discuss the films with friends, colleagues or anyone interested. Ewa Cederstam's unique documentary film Dare Remember has been on tour, won awards and it has been screened in the Swedish Riksdag. On July 18, 2013 at 20.00 it plays on Swedish television again.
Maud Nycanders film The photographer fron Riga will be shown on Al Jazeera English on July 3.
The film is about Inta Ruka, one of Latvia's most prominent photographers, who bears witness of the conditions of the artists during the Soviet period and in today's Latvia burdened by financial crises.
